Washing Type 4 Curls

Washing Type 4 Curls

Ok ladies so we’ve all heard or experienced first hand the dreaded tales of wash day. For type 4 naturals wash day can be particularly intricate.  However, wash day is a crucial step in every healthy hair routine regardless of your curl type. Type 4 curls are very delicate and need to be gently handled. Although wash day requires a few steps and patience, you do not have to spend hours washing your hair.  With a consistent routine and a few careful steps, your hair will be well on its way to great health.

To achieve the best results on wash day, starting your routine in sections will save you time and cut your Detangling process in half. Divide your hair into a few sections to make shampooing easier and help with Detangling. Detangling is not a step that you rush because type 4 curls are fragile when wet and need to be handled with care. Including a wide tooth comb makes Detangling easier and helps tackle stubborn knots. Preventing your hair from tangling is priority.  When applying shampoo concentrate on your scalp section by section vs the hair itself. After shampooing with a sulphate free shampoo follow with a moisturizing conditioner. It’s important to use sulphate free shampoos because they are without harmful cleansing properties which strip  type 4 curls of its natural oils and moisture. Now that your hair is Detangled, clean and moisturized, it’s time to deep condition. Deep conditioning is one of the most important parts of your hair regimen particularly for type 4 naturals. Type 4 curls become dry easily, break easily and has a hard time maintaining moisture. By including deep conditioners weekly you are guaranteed to repair, improve hair health, dramatically reduce dryness and maintain moisture.
